Jaron Korvinus - The Glow 25.11.2008 - 22.11.2008
More about the artist
Extrabold is proud to present a series of recent photographs by Jaron Korvinus, formerly known as El Pussycat. The exhibition will be on from 25th october until 22nd november. Artificial light and shadows play centre stage, at the same time revealing Korvinus’ fascination for experimental typography. He was educated as an illustrator at the Willem de Kooning Academie in Rotterdam and gradually shifted his attention towards graphic design. At the same time he started doing more autonomous projects, in which artificial light plays an important role – he makes drawings with light, often in public space.
'I have been working with light myself for quite a while now. I started when I was working as an aid to the elderly. I had been given a good camera, and I discovered that by using slow aperture times I could create ‘light drawings’ by moving the camera along fixed light sources, for instance road lamps at night. The reverse is also possible, of course: drawing with a moving light source in front of a fixed camera. These techniques, of course, are not new at all: many artists from the 20th century have experimented with it. The point is that you have to make it your own, to develop your own style and ‘handwriting’ – that makes it into an art!'
